What is considered to be the original Bayeux Tapestry is proudly displayed and perfectly preserved in Normandy France in Bayeux. There is much speculation about the origin of this beautiful tapestry. Initial Commissioning

The brother of William the Conqueror, a Bayeux Bishop Odo is said to have been one of the key figures behind the initial commissioning of this work. Measuring an impressive 70 m in length this embroidered piece was originally handcrafted in the city of Kent in England. The original is proudly displayed in Normandy France for all to see.

Weaving And Embroidery Expert

Interestingly a replica of Victorian origin was inspired by Elizabeth Wardle and is considered to be of the highest quality. That exact replica now resides in what is known as the Museum of Reading. Elizabeth was a respected and highly regarded weaving and embroidery expert that used her skill to stitch this amazing tapestry. In addition, she was a member of the Leak Embroidery Society. Using high quality hand-painted images of the Bayeux Tapestry, Elizabeth was able to create a detailed and accurate replica that was color correct and amazingly representative of the prized original Bayeux tapestry.

Originally displayed in 1886 in leek’s Nicolson Institute, this tapestry went on to tour a number of cities throughout England.
