François Boucher

(1703-1770): Francois Boucher was an accomplished artist during the 18th Century. Boucher had many of his paintings woven into tapestries during the Renaissance. In figure tapestries, the great name is Boucher.

Examples of his work are the paintings Triumph of Venus (1740, Nationalmuseum, Stockholm) and Nude Lying on a Sofa (1752, Alte Pinakothek, Munich) and the tapestry series Loves of the Gods (1744). His facility with the brush, even when betraying the occasional superficiality of his art, enabled him to master every aspect of painting - history and mythology, portraiture, landscape, ordinary life and, as part of larger compositions, even still life.
