Born in Balle, in eastern Denmark in1859, Peder Monsted was a noted Danish painter of landscapes and portraits, renowned particularly for his naturalistic ‘plein air’ scenes and his skill in conveying the clarity of light. In his original painting, The Goose Girl, a young farm girl in a pretty pinafore ambles along a country lane feeding her geese on a beautiful springtime day with warm sunlight streaming through the trees.
