Kings Departure II Maximilien Tapestry Wall Hanging
|Woven In:||Woven in Belgium|
|History:||Kings Departure Maximilien Belgian chenille tapestry features the hunting scene based on the Hunt of Maximilien, which was originally woven in the 16th century. The designs were based on the illustrations of Bernard van Orley. This medieval tapestry scene shows the king in red garments and stockings, on horseback in the forest with the city in the background. There is an exquisite detail in the verdure or the foliage of the scene, as well as the horse's musculature, as well as the rest of the elements of nature. These are the beginnings of the emergence of verdure tapestry art from the medieval era, transforming the stylized detail of medieval art, to that of the Renaissance.|
