The brother of William the Conqueror, a Bayeux Bishop Odo is said to have been one of the key figures behind the initial commissioning of this work. Interestingly a replica of Victorian origin was inspired by Elizabeth Wardle and is considered to be of the highest quality. That exact replica now resides in what is known as the Museum of Reading. Elizabeth was a respected and highly regarded weaving and embroidery expert that used her skill to stitch this amazing tapestry. In addition, she was a member of the Leak Embroidery Society.
